The Vinton Garden Club member of the National Garden Clubs, Inc. Central Region, Federated Garden Clubs of Iowa, Inc. and District II met in Cedar Rapids at Master Gardener Deb Walser home
to see her ponds and gardens. She gave a very good walk through and educational program. Then members went to Vito’s for lunch and the meeting.
Iowa State Fair Berkshire Show
Reed Family Berks of Ottumwa showed the Champion Gilt and Reserve Champion Boar at the Berkshire Swine Show August 16 at the 2012 Iowa State Fair.
The Champion Boar was exhibited by Brice Conover of Baxter. Vivian Benjegerdes of Mason City was awarded the Reserve Champion Gilt banner.
The Premier Exhibitor award went to Shady Brook Farm of Oakland.
Iowa State Fair Duroc Show
Stewarts Duroc Farm of Waverly exhibited the Champion Boar and Champion Gilt in the Duroc Swine Show August 17 at the 2012 Iowa State Fair.
Jack Bair and Family of Elkhart claimed Reserve Champion Boar honors and Ploeger Show Pigs of Pierson exhibited the Reserve Champion Gilt.
Premier Exhibitor honors went to Matt and Tom Welk of Letts.

NCCC Team Comes to Summer Camp

Members of NCCC team Maple 5 arrived at Camp One Heartland in Willow River, Minn. July 16 with some faint memories of bug juice and camp songs.
Camp One Heartland, a non-profit, began in 1993 as a camp for children infected with HIV/AIDS to come and simply be kids again. Since then the camp has grown to host other camps addressing issues such as transitional housing, Chron’s Disease and Colitis, and Camp Camp Revolution, a camp for kids ranging from 13 to 18 who identify themselves as Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgendered, Questioning or Ally (LGBTQA).
